ABO Energy and CIP Collaborate on Canadian Wind and Hydrogen Project
ABO Energy GmbH & Co. KGaA has announced a partnership with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) to advance the Toqlukuti’k Wind & Hydrogen Project in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. ABO Energy retains a 10% stake in the project, while CIP secures a 90% share. This collaboration aims to leverage the region's exceptional wind resources to produce cost-effective green hydrogen and ammonia.
The project, boasting a potential onshore wind capacity of five gigawatts, is strategically geared to meet future European green energy demand. Toqlukuti’k holds exclusive development rights on nominated Crown land, supported by a memorandum of understanding with the Miawpukek First Nation. The project anticipates generating over 4,000 construction jobs and 400 operational jobs, significantly boosting local employment.
This venture builds on existing collaborations between ABO Energy and CIP, including the Buffalo Plains wind farm in Alberta. The partnership underscores their commitment to contributing to Canada's carbon-neutral ambitions, with CIP emphasizing the competitive pricing potential of green hydrogen and ammonia from the Atlantic wind resources.
