ABB announces the appointment of Morten Wierod as new CEO
ABB's board of directors has officially appointed Morten Wierod as the next Chief Executive Officer, succeeding Björn Rosengren starting from August 1, 2024. Morten Wierod, a 52-year-old Norwegian citizen, currently holds the position of President of the Electrification business at ABB, a role he assumed in 2019 after serving as President of the Motion business. He has been with ABB since 1998 and holds a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology.
ABB's Chairman, Peter Voser, highlights Wierod's qualifications, emphasizing his outstanding career within the company and deep understanding of ABB's decentralized operational model, as well as his significant experience with the company's key customer segments. According to Voser, under Wierod's leadership, ABB will continue to focus on its key priorities, with its financial and sustainability goals remaining firmly in place.
As for his predecessor, Björn Rosengren, who will step down as CEO by the end of July 2024 to retire at the end of the year, he will serve as an advisor until the end of 2024 to ensure a smooth transition. ABB will soon initiate the selection process to find a successor for Wierod in his current role as President of the Electrification business.
