Aclara Resources Updates on Rare Earths Separation Project

Aclara Resources Inc. announced the completion of a conceptual engineering study for its rare earths separation project. This project, developed by Aclara Technologies in the U.S., utilizes solvent extraction technology. The conceptual design was created in collaboration with the Saskatchewan Research Council. A Class 5-AACE CAPEX and OPEX estimate was delivered, indicating an initial CAPEX of $354 million and an OPEX of $12 per kg of REO. Key features include environmental provisions like waste reduction and zero liquid discharge.

The process ensures over 99.5% purity of separated REE, with expected recoveries of 94% for NdPr, 92% for Dy, and 91% for Tb. Aclara aims to be the first vertically integrated heavy rare earths company outside Asia. Its vertical integration strategy targets an independent supply chain for vital applications in clean energy and technology.

Aclara is also exploring synergies with its circular mineral harvesting process, aiming to reduce CAPEX and OPEX while maintaining high environmental standards. Future steps involve conducting chemistry trade-off studies and locating an optimal site in the U.S. for the industrial facility. These initiatives highlight Aclara's commitment to efficient rare earth production critical for combating climate change.
