AdJane Introduces Mucosal Booster Strategy for Vaccines

AdJane Biosciences has announced a strategy to enhance respiratory vaccine efficacy using its Neisseria meningitidis native Outer Membrane Vesicle (Nm-nOMV) platform. This new approach aims to integrate a mucosal booster with existing intramuscular vaccines, potentially amplifying immunity at the mucosal surfaces where pathogens initially invade.

The company highlights that current vaccines establish strong systemic immunity but often provide limited protection at respiratory mucosal sites. AdJane's proposed intranasal Nm-nOMV booster intends to complement this by inducing mucosal IgA responses, crucial for reducing transmission at the entry point of infections.

Recent clinical trials suggest that the intranasal booster could enhance immunity for individuals previously vaccinated with mRNA vaccines like those from Pfizer and Moderna. While initial studies relate to COVID-19, AdJane envisions extending the approach to other respiratory conditions such as influenza and RSV.
