Adtran Networks SE Reports Q1 2024 Financial Results
Adtran Networks SE disclosed its financial results for the first quarter of 2024, revealing a decrease in revenue and a rise in operational losses compared to previous periods. The company, a pioneer in open networking solutions, has faced adverse challenges due to an uncertain macroeconomic environment.
For Q1 2024, the company reported revenues of EUR 109.6 million, which marks a significant drop of 38.9% from EUR 179.4 million in Q1 2023, and a 7.5% decrease from Q4 2023. This downfall in revenue is attributed to higher customer inventory levels and increased interest rates impacting spending behaviors.
The company’s pro forma EBIT stood at negative EUR 3.4 million, which signifies a downturn from a positive EBIT of EUR 9.7 million in Q1 2023. Further, the pro forma gross profit also decreased by 31.9% to EUR 39.7 million. The beginning of profitability in certain operations couldn't counterbalance the overall decline.
Adtran's operating loss intensified, registering at EUR 8.8 million for the quarter, rising substantially from an operating income of EUR 6.2 million in Q1 2023. Additionally, net loss reduced to EUR 1.2 million from a EUR 22.7 million loss in Q4 2023, reflecting some recovery due to beneficial tax effects and usability of loss carryforwards in future periods.
Cash reserves stood at EUR 32.9 million, up from the end of the previous quarter. CEO Tom Stanton expressed commitment to their business efficiency program and anticipation for market recovery. The company expects future gains from global optical network expansion but remains cautious due to ongoing economic unpredictability.
