Africa Pushes for Ethical Mining with ARMSI Launch
The Africa Minerals Strategy Group, in collaboration with partners, introduced the Africa Responsible Mineral Sourcing Initiative (ARMSI) on November 18, 2024, at the Dubai Precious Metals Conference. This initiative aims to establish a responsible mineral sourcing ecosystem across Africa. Key objectives are to ensure transparency, compliance, and sustainability in Africa's mining sector, fostering positive economic development.
During the launch event in Dubai, various high-ranking officials from African countries, financial institutions, and global industry leaders attended, expressing their commitment to ethical sourcing. The initiative sets forth guidelines and standards to boost national capacities and integrate responsible sourcing practices starting with precious metals.
The roadmap, with a finalized set of guidelines expected by May 2025, will engage stakeholders through regional forums. By February 2025, the first secured delivery of responsibly sourced gold and silver from Africa to the UAE will commence, highlighting Africa's commitment to transforming the global mining landscape.
