Alliance to End Plastic Waste Publishes Solution Model Playbooks to Foster Plastic Circularity
The Alliance to End Plastic Waste has released the initial two playbooks in its 'Solution Model' series aimed at enhancing stakeholders' understanding across the plastic value chain. The playbooks cover strategies tailored to minimize plastic waste and promote a circular economy for plastics.
Designed in partnership with Boston Consulting Group, the first playbook discusses strategies for municipal waste segregation at the household level across Argentina, China, India, and Indonesia. This approach is intended to increase recycled materials' quality and volume, reduce sorting expenses, and lessen landfill usage.
The second playbook focuses on boosting plastic waste value recovery through basic manual sorting, with an emphasis on ergonomic improvements and process efficiency. This solution model is noted as particularly beneficial for nations with nascent or underdeveloped waste treatment infrastructures, featuring implementations in Brazil, China, Indonesia, and Kenya.
The Alliance aims for these playbooks to guide and encourage further development and scaling of effective waste management solutions globally, relying on lessons learned from their projects and collaboration efforts.
Jacob Duer, President and CEO of the Alliance, emphasized the necessity for scalable, replicable solutions that are economically viable, socially responsible, and environmentally sound to transition towards plastic circularity. Marc Schmidt from BCG highlighted the importance of local, adaptable solutions to address plastic and waste challenges effectively.
