Amazon Joins Holcim in Funding Sustainable Building Ventures

Amazon's Climate Pledge Fund is collaborating with Holcim to invest in innovative startups 14Trees and Paebbl, focusing on sustainable building technologies. The investment in 14Trees, a joint venture with British International Investment, aims to boost the construction of large-scale, low-carbon buildings using 3D printing. This includes potential developments such as low-carbon data centers.

The investment in Paebbl seeks to expand the startup's mineralization technology, which aims to store CO₂ permanently within concrete. This venture positions concrete as a potential carbon sink, contributing to a decarbonized economy.

Nollaig Forrest, Chief Sustainability Officer at Holcim, highlighted the significance of these investments in pushing the limits of sustainable construction innovation. Established in 2016, 14Trees has pioneered the delivery of 3D-printed structures in Africa. Meanwhile, Paebbl, founded in 2021, focuses on turning CO₂ into a sustainable raw material.
