ANDRITZ Starts Up Large Eucalyptus Pulp Mill for Suzano in Brazil
International technology group ANDRITZ has successfully started a new pulp mill for Brazilian pulp producer Suzano in Ribas do Rio Pardo, Mato Grosso do Sul. When fully operational, it will be the world’s largest single-line eucalyptus pulp mill with an annual production capacity of 2.55 million tons. Notably, the mill will operate without fossil fuels, being energy self-sufficient and producing surplus green power for local suppliers and the national grid.
ANDRITZ supplied the mill under an Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Civil Works (EPCC) basis. The supply included advanced technologies for fiber production, chemical recovery, pulp drying, and power generation. The mill's design aims to enhance environmental performance with features like gasification plants for fossil-free lime kiln operation and a SulfoLoop sulfuric acid plant to recycle sulfur from waste streams.
“This new pulp mill will increase our production capacity while significantly reducing our environmental impact, supporting our financial and environmental goals,” said Maurício Miranda, Director of Engineering at Suzano.
ANDRITZ Executive Board Member Jarno Nymark expressed pride in Suzano's choice of ANDRITZ as their EPCC partner, emphasizing the use of advanced technologies for efficiency and circularity in this flagship project.
