Asian American Movies' Series "Comedy Invasion" Nominated for Canadian Screen Awards 2024

"Comedy Invasion", a groundbreaking stand-up comedy TV series by Asian American Movies / AAM.tv, focused on showcasing diverse Canadian content, has been nominated for the Canadian Screen Awards 2024. This recognition is for its episode titled "Comedy Invasion: Rez Style", which features Squamish Nation’s comedian Keith Nahanee. Despite facing rejection from Canadian broadcasters, the series found its way to audiences globally through AAM.tv’s platform and an international distribution partnership.

Quentin Lee and Cindy Au Yeung, the creators of "Comedy Invasion", financed and self-distributed the comedy series, which highlights the experiences and talents of BIPOC Canadian stand-up comedians. The nominated episode, dedicated to Nahanee’s late mother, humorously explores life on the Indigenous reservation, offering a unique perspective rarely seen in mainstream comedy. This nomination not only celebrates the creators' persistence and vision but also emphasizes the importance of diverse representation in the entertainment industry.

Inspired by the series and their collaboration, Nahanee, Lee, and Au Yeung established Rez Comedy Ltd., focusing on Indigenous and Canadian comedic talent. Their new project, "Rez Comedy", aims to continue the mission of "Comedy Invasion", further highlighting marginalized voices in comedy. With plans to turn this concept into an independent feature film, the team is currently seeking community support for its production.
