Aurubis AG Invests €40 Million in Luftnen Plant Efficiency
Aurubis AG is investing €40 million to enhance its production facility in Lünen, North Rhine-Westphalia. The funds will be used to build an air separation unit, enabling the site to produce high-quality oxygen and nitrogen independently. This plant will reduce dependence on external suppliers, increase production efficiency, and ensure a nearly 100% purity of oxygen, reducing the amount required for copper production.
The project will eliminate up to 3,000 annual truck deliveries of liquid oxygen, cutting CO2 emissions by up to 8,500 tons each year. Aurubis aims to strengthen Lünen as a recycling hub while supporting the energy transition through recycled metals essential to industry in Germany and Europe.
The air separation unit is expected to be completed by the end of 2025, enhancing the reliability and efficiency of the production process at Aurubis Lünen.
