Aurubis Invests in Fully Automated Sample Preparation System
Aurubis has implemented a cutting-edge, fully automated sample preparation system at its Lünen site. The innovative system uses advanced robotics to efficiently and securely process samples, drastically reducing the preparation time from up to five days to one hour. This investment, a mid-single-digit-million-euro amount, marks a significant step in the company’s automation and digitalization strategy. The Lünen site is the first in the group to utilize this technology, with plans to extend similar systems to other locations.
The system can handle up to 10,000 samples per year, proving to be the most efficient in the industry. It enhances occupational safety by eliminating manual labor and reducing noise emissions. Additionally, the system's enclosed design minimizes environmental impact and protects against external manipulation, ensuring highly reliable sampling results. This development boosts transparency and trust with suppliers, vital in the competitive recycling material market.
Aurubis processes about 1.1 million tons of recycling material annually. The new system is expected to streamline operations not only for e-scrap but also for other valuable materials, furthering the company’s commitment to sustainable practices. Initial tests at additional sites, including Hamburg, have shown promising results, indicating potential for broader application within the Aurubis network.
