Monsanto Announces Roundup™ Class Settlement Agreement
On February 17, 2026, Monsanto, a subsidiary of Bayer Aktiengesellschaft, announced a proposed U.S. nationwide class settlement for Roundup™ litigation. The settlement, totaling up to 7.25 billion USD, aims to resolve existing and future claims alleging Non-Hodgkin lymphoma injuries linked to Roundup™ exposure. Court approval is required for this settlement, which is part of a broader strategy addressing legal challenges.
Monsanto plans annual payments over 21 years, providing financial predictability. Concurrently, the company has settled other cases, including PCB-related verdicts. These legal measures will increase Bayer's litigation liabilities from 7.8 billion euros to 11.8 billion euros, with a forecasted negative cash flow in 2026.
Despite these settlements, Monsanto denies any liability. The strategy includes obtaining regulatory clarity and minimizing litigation risks, with an anticipated U.S. Supreme Court review playing a critical role.
