Bernhard Kaufmann to Succeed Patrick Raaflaub as Swiss Re's Group CRO
Swiss Re has announced the appointment of Bernhard Kaufmann as the new Group Chief Risk Officer (CRO), taking over from Patrick Raaflaub, who is set to retire. Kaufmann's role will commence on 1 October 2025. With 17 years of experience in risk management within the re/insurance sector, he joins Swiss Re from Helvetia, where he served as Group CRO.
Before Helvetia, Kaufmann was the Chief Risk Officer at NN Group and held senior positions at Munich Re Group. He brings a strong background in risk management and theoretical physics, having completed his PhD at the Technical University of Munich. Jacques de Vaucleroy, Chairman of Swiss Re, expressed confidence in Kaufmann's ability to guide the company through a complex risk and regulatory environment.
Raaflaub's contributions over the years have been acknowledged and appreciated by the board, marking the end of an impactful tenure at Swiss Re.
