WATERLOO, ON / ACCESSWIRE / September 17, 2024 / BlackBerry Limited has enhanced its QNX® OS for Safety by adding a POSIX-compliant, ISO 26262 certified, integrity-checking filesystem. This addition provides OEMs and embedded software suppliers with an extra layer of validation for safety-critical systems.

The new QNX® Filesystem for Safety (QFS) is certified to ISO 26262 ASIL B, the automotive industry's functional safety standard. It verifies the integrity of all filesystem contents during operation, allowing developers to detect and address corruption, thus ensuring system safety.

This measure is crucial for safety-critical functions such as collision avoidance or object detection, where data integrity is vital. The QFS checks all data and performance parameters, maintaining safety throughout.

Grant Courville, VP of Products and Strategy at BlackBerry QNX, highlighted the company's commitment to functional safety. "This rollout empowers our customers to build safety-critical systems with greater ease and confidence," he stated.

Chris Rommel, EVP of IoT & Embedded Technology at VDC Research, noted that QNX's certified filesystem helps manufacturers meet both safety and time-to-market requirements.

Select OEMs and Tier 1s are currently using QFS 1.0 in their next-generation automotive technology development. The solution is now part of QNX OS for Safety 2.2.3.
