BROADPEAK SA and BT Group Collaborate on Revolutionary Multicast Technology for Live Video Streaming
BROADPEAK SA and BT Group have announced a collaboration to introduce a new multicast technology aimed at improving live video streaming services. This technological alliance is set to leverage Broadpeak's Multicast ABR technology alongside BT Group’s Multicast-Assisted Unicast Delivery (MAUD) solution, promising substantial enhancements in streaming quality and reliability, while also aiming to minimize content delivery expenses. The solution is primed for trial runs by prominent broadcasters and content organizations in 2024.
The partnership outlines an innovative approach in handling increasing online live event traffic. BT Group’s Howard Watson underscored MAUD as a ground-breaking advancement for content delivery over the internet, poised to provide viewers with a more stable and consistent viewing experience and facilitate more efficient content delivery for broadcasters and video service providers. The collaboration with Broadpeak marks a significant stride in multicast ABR innovation, leveraging their technology within the MAUD framework.
Utilizing Broadpeak’s nanoCDN multicast ABR, the initiative will see the creation of the world’s first MAUD-enabled network, significantly enhancing the efficiency of live video streaming services. This new architecture is designed to reduce bandwidth consumption by up to 50% during peak viewing times, leading to lower energy consumption and a potential decrease in the deployment of additional caches. Jacques Le Mancq, CEO of Broadpeak, expressed excitement over this collaborative effort, emphasizing its potential to redefine broadcaster and video service provider offerings through improved video quality, streamlined content delivery, and increased sustainability.
