Callahan Construction Chosen to Oversee Leefort Terrace Affordable Housing Redevelopment

BRIDGEWATER, MA / ACCESSWIRE / July 23, 2024 / Callahan Construction Managers (Callahan) announced its selection to manage the reconstruction of the Leefort Terrace Affordable Housing complex in Salem, MA. The project will create 124 eco-friendly, affordable apartments that are Passive House certified and powered by electricity and solar energy.

Initially built in 1958, Leefort Terrace needed significant updates. Beacon Communities and the Salem Housing Authority chose Callahan for their experience in affordable housing and complex renovations. The current garden-style residences, located in a coastal floodplain, do not meet state and federal renovation regulations.

The project involves demolishing eight buildings and constructing a new three and four-story structure. It will include amenities such as a fitness center, community room, wellness office, and laundry rooms. The site plan also features parking and bicycle spaces, EV charging stations, and spaces for future EV use.

The redevelopment aims to benefit both residents and the Salem community. The design emphasizes a smaller footprint, lower building height, and more open space, integrating extensive community feedback. Callahan's expertise in sustainable construction ensures that green features are prioritized.
