Car market feels erosion of policy framework

In August 2024, the new vehicle market in Switzerland and Liechtenstein fell by 16.1% compared to the previous year with 15,927 registrations. Since the beginning of the year, 155,575 new registrations have been registered, a decrease of 3.6%. The share of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles stands at 26.8%, well below the target of 50% by 2025 set by the roadmap for electric mobility.

However, auto-suisse deplores the impact of the regulations, in particular the 4% tax on electric vehicles. In order to achieve the targets, additional and more realistic measures are needed. Auto-suisse CEO Thomas Rücker calls for increased pragmatism to overcome the obstacles to electromobility. Discussions and evaluations are continuing in order to find viable solutions for the development of sustainable mobility.
