CARBIOS and FCC Environment to announce PET biorecycling plant in UK
CARBIOS and FCC Environment have signed a letter of intent to install a PET biorecycling plant in the United Kingdom. CARBIOS, a biotechnology company, and FCC Environment, a British waste management company, are collaborating to integrate CARBIOS enzymatic depolymerization technology. This initiative aims to produce high-quality recycled PET from difficult-to-recycle PET plastic and textile waste.
UK policy promotes a circular economy, requiring innovations like biorecycling. FCC wants to demonstrate the benefits of this technology, including reduced energy consumption and improved polymer circularity. The UK plant would process waste that is currently not recyclable, reinforcing FCC's commitment to a circular economy. CARBIOS plans to become a technological leader in PET recycling by 2035.
