CESI Secures Major Contract to Power Global Internet Satellites
MILAN, ITALY - CESI, an Italian multinational, has entered into a significant five-year contract, valued at over one hundred million euros, to supply solar cells for leading American space satellites. The deal involves providing sufficient solar cells to equip eight satellites per month, aiming to expand internet access globally, including remote polar regions.
The solar cells, designed and tested in CESI's Milan labs, feature robust materials like gallium arsenide and indium gallium phosphide, which are ideal for space's extreme conditions. Innovations such as flexible cells and the Integral Assembly technique also highlight CESI's advancements in space technology. These developments enable lighter, cost-effective satellites by eliminating the need for protective glass.
CEO Domenico Villani emphasized this contract as a testament to CESI's role in significant global projects and its readiness to address future technological demands. CESI stands out as one of the four global producers of space-qualified solar cells, uniquely positioned with full European control over its products. This contract could extend CESI's influence in the space economy while supporting its ongoing role in powering over a hundred civilian satellites globally.
