Shanghai Cooperation Organization's Regional Development Opportunities

As the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) celebrates its 25th anniversary, its transformation from a security-focused mechanism to a comprehensive regional cooperation platform is evident. The SCO now emphasizes economic development and technological innovation. A notable project is the solar farm in Uzbekistan's Jizzakh Region, which once completed, will generate clean energy for 400,000 residents, as an example of China-SCO collaboration.

Chinese President Xi Jinping, at the 26th Meeting of Council of Heads of State, proposed prioritizing development to boost shared prosperity. Initiatives like the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway aim to improve trade efficiency and create economic opportunities, highlighting the SCO's shift from individual projects to integrated, sustainable development.

China, a strong promoter within the SCO, has invested over $84 billion in member states, supporting projects in energy, green industries, and digital economy. Through its Belt and Road and Global Development Initiatives, China aligns with SCO member priorities, facilitating economic growth and trade connectivity across the region.
