Commissioning of the first OSMOSUN desalination unit in Morocco
On July 10, 2024, OSMOSUN announces the commissioning of its first solar desalination unit in Morocco, in the Guelmim-Oued Noun region. This unit will irrigate an ecological plantation of 38 hectares, as part of a regenerative agriculture project led by the company SAND TO GREEN.
Created in 2022, SAND TO GREEN uses an agroforestry model inspired by oases to make desert lands fertile. The OSMOSUN 6 BW unit, producing up to 140 m³ of fresh water per day, treats water collected from brackish groundwater aquifers. The plantations include fig trees, pomegranate trees, carob trees and various aromatic plants.
This achievement marks a low-carbon step forward for OSMOSUN Maroc, a joint venture with the PCS group. It meets the water needs of Morocco and West Africa by offering a sustainable and environmentally friendly solution.
