Corinex and EFR Advance Smart Meter Infrastructure in Germany

Corinex GmbH and EFR GmbH have achieved a significant milestone by finalizing an interoperable Broadband Powerline (BPL) system for Germany's smart meter rollout. Following a six-month joint technical process, both companies have developed specifications ensuring that modems and Smart Meter Gateways can communicate across their infrastructures. This collaboration adheres to EU directives promoting interoperability, providing utility companies with multiple supplier options and reducing reliance on a single vendor.

The partnership allows customers to select from various interoperable G.hn BPL products for the first time in Germany. This flexibility is crucial for Distribution System Operators (DSOs) and metering point operators as they scale smart meter deployments. The Corinex-EFR solution includes smart meter gateway connectivity via 1T modules, enhancing choice and minimizing supplier dependence. Executives from both companies emphasize the technological and economic benefits of this collaboration, especially for long-term infrastructure projects.
