Deutsche Wohnen AG has agreed to sell its nursing company, Pflegen & Wohnen Hamburg GmbH, to the Hamburg Municipal Holding Company HGV. This transaction involves 13 nursing home locations with approximately 2,000 employees and 2,400 nursing places in Hamburg. The Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg (FHH) aims to strengthen its long-term elderly care services through this acquisition.

The purchase price is set at 380 million euros, to be financed by HGV without affecting the public budget. The Senate has approved the notarization of the sale agreement, which is scheduled for January 17, 2025. This sale completes Deutsche Wohnen's strategic divestment from its nursing operations, as stated by Lars Urbansky, CEO of Deutsche Wohnen.

Rolf Buch, CEO of Vonovia, the main shareholder of Deutsche Wohnen, praised the deal for enhancing relations with Hamburg. Finance Senator Dr. Andreas Dressel highlighted the acquisition's role in addressing future demographic challenges.
