Digitunity and WES Partner to Tackle Digital Divide for Immigrants and Refugees
World Education Services (WES), through the Mariam Assefa Fund, and Digitunity have launched a collaborative initiative aiming to mitigate digital disparities faced by immigrants and refugees. This partnership focuses on granting these communities access to essential technology resources. WES, a non-profit social enterprise with a focus on aiding international students, immigrants, and refugees in North America, has long been devoted to fostering inclusive economies. In collaboration with Digitunity, a non-profit committed to universal computer ownership, the entities are addressing the tech needs of underserved communities.
By harnessing the Mariam Assefa Fund Ambassadors program, WES has facilitated the donation of 877 devices to non-profit organizations across the U.S. and Canada. This joint effort not only provides critical technology to immigrants and refugees but also contributes to environmental stewardship by repurposing surplus electronic equipment. Ashley Taylor from WES highlighted the initiative's significance in fostering system change and reducing barriers for these communities.
The partnership showcases how collective action can confront and dismantle the systemic obstacles preventing equitable technology access. WES encourages other organizations to contribute excess technology via Digitunity. This collaborative approach underscores the power of technology donations in advancing digital equity and creating a more inclusive society.
