Dr. Alexander Sundermann Joins Next Gen Diagnostics as Director of Infection Prevention Services

WEST PALM BEACH, FL / ACCESSWIRE / July 9, 2024 / Next Gen Diagnostics announced the addition of Dr. Alexander Sundermann from the University of Pittsburgh School of Public Health, Department of Epidemiology, as its Director of Infection Prevention Services. This part-time role allows Dr. Sundermann to further his research on whole genome sequencing (WGS) while contributing to NGD’s efforts in infection prevention.

Dr. Sundermann's collaboration with Dr. Lee Harrison of Pitt has positioned him as a leader in the use of prospective sequencing for detecting hospital infection transmissions. His expertise will be pivotal as NGD rolls out its integrated sequencing and bioinformatic systems to hospitals and public health labs in the US.

NGD has utilized prospective sequencing since 2018, documenting its efficacy in outbreak detection and control, including recent work in partnership with Vanderbilt. The launch of the NGD100 sample preparation system at ASM Microbe 2024 marks another step towards practical, cost-effective WGS implementation in healthcare settings.

Dr. Sundermann aims to share his experience with hospitals and public health labs nationwide, advocating for WGS-based infection prevention systems that can significantly enhance hospital operations and patient safety.
