EdgeCore Digital Infrastructure Announces New Hyperscale Data Center Market in Culpeper, Virginia

DENVER, CO / ACCESSWIRE / July 18, 2024 / EdgeCore Digital Infrastructure has announced the purchase of 120 acres in Culpeper Technology Zone (CTZ), Virginia. The company plans to develop a 1.4 million square foot data center campus initially supporting 216 MW of critical IT load, with the potential to reach 432 MW. Initial power is expected by early 2028 through Rappahannock Electric Cooperative.

Located 60 miles from Ashburn, Culpeper is a growing data center market due to its CTZ, a 690-acre site for data centers, public works, and STEM educational initiatives. Michael Shaw, EdgeCore's VP of Land Acquisition, emphasized the site’s proximity to Ashburn and power availability as key benefits for hyperscale customers.

EdgeCore aims to employ a close-looped air-cooled system in Culpeper, achieving a water usage effectiveness (WUE) rating below .01 L/kWh. Bill Jabjiniak, SVP of National Community Engagement, highlighted EdgeCore's commitment to economic growth and job creation while minimizing water use impact.

With the addition of Culpeper, EdgeCore now operates in five markets, including Ashburn, Silicon Valley, Phoenix, and Reno, all designed to support hyperscale data center campuses.
