Eiffage, SPIE Nucléaire, and ABC Secure Major Contract for EPR2 Nuclear Reactors

Eiffage, through its subsidiary Eiffage Énergie Systèmes, SPIE Nucléaire, and ABC have secured a significant contract with EDF. This contract, valued at over €900 million, involves the supply and installation of main diesel backup generators for six EPR2-type nuclear reactors.

The contract includes the design, approval, manufacturing, installation, testing, and commissioning of 24 10 MWe diesel backup generators. These generators will serve six units operating in pairs at three sites: Penly, Gravelines, and Bugey. Each site will feature four generators per unit, with auxiliary electromechanical equipment, ventilation systems, and fire suppression systems.

The consortium will adhere to EDF’s equipment standardisation for the French nuclear programme. The 17-year project will commence this year and, at its peak, employ around 350 individuals per site, generating 80,000 hours for social employment and jobs for people with disabilities.

Previously, Eiffage secured the civil engineering contract for EPR2 reactors at Penly in 2023. The new contract highlights the group's capacity to manage large-scale projects aimed at decarbonisation and energy sovereignty in France.

ABC will supply the generator sets, while its subsidiary OMTD will handle installation and testing. SPIE Nucléaire will contribute expertise in ventilation, pipework, and fire protection systems.
