ENGIE has marked a significant advancement in India by securing its first Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project. The project has a capacity of 280 MW/560 MWh and was awarded under Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited’s tender. Set for 2027 commissioning, it aims to store electricity for up to two hours, enhancing energy management during peak and low-demand periods.

By mid-2025, ENGIE had nearly 2 GW of wind and solar projects in India, contributing to the nation’s goal of 500 GW renewable energy by 2030. As renewable energy grows, storage systems are vital for maintaining power supply stability. ENGIE aims to boost its total renewable and storage capacity in India to 7 GW by 2030.

Globally, ENGIE’s BESS portfolio summed up to 5.6 GW by mid-2025, aligning with its target of 95 GW renewable capacity by 2030. This project underscores ENGIE's commitment to energy transition and grid reliability.
