EU Evaluates Support for EcoGraf's Epanko Graphite Project
EcoGraf Limited has hosted discussions with the European Union to explore financial support for its Epanko Graphite Project in Tanzania. The project is considered critical for establishing a sustainable supply chain of battery minerals for Europe. Discussions follow positive meetings in Brussels regarding EcoGraf's graphite developments. The EU aims to assist in accelerating the project and potentially provide technical and financial backing.
The proposed support includes improvements to infrastructure and vocational training. Key areas include mechanical shaping facilities, transport infrastructure, and electricity sub-station expansions. A senior debt facility of US$105 million has been arranged through KfW IPEX-Bank, supported by the German government, to fund the first stage of Epanko's development.
EcoGraf’s technology promises low-emission graphite products for the European electric vehicle market. The project is expected to commence production with a capacity of 73,000tpa, eventually increasing to meet market demands.
