Focus Graphite Poised to Capitalize on American Tariffs on Chinese Graphite
Focus Graphite Inc. is positioning itself as a key supplier of high-purity large flake graphite for North American electric vehicle batteries. The U.S. government recently announced a 25% tariff on Chinese natural graphite imports starting in 2026. OEMs have two years to secure alternative graphite sources to qualify for the Clean Vehicle Credit under the American Inflation Reduction Act.
"We believe the demand for North American graphite is critical, and we control two of the continent's most promising graphite projects," said Marc Roy, President and CEO of Focus Graphite. The company's flagship Lac Knife project in Québec is expected to meet this new demand.
The Clean Vehicle Credit aims to make electric vehicles more accessible but excludes critical minerals from certain foreign entities, including China. This regulation emphasizes the need for domestically sourced graphite, which is crucial for electric vehicle batteries.
Québec, a significant graphite producer, offers a robust regulatory environment, ensuring adherence to environmental and community standards. Focus Graphite was recently selected for support by Québec's Société du Plan Nord to maximize funding and partnership opportunities.
"Québec is a first-class mining jurisdiction, and we're excited to advance our projects," Roy added.
