Form Bio and Ginkgo Bioworks announce partnership to optimize gene therapy

Form Bio, a provider of computational life sciences solutions, and Ginkgo Bioworks, specializing in cellular programming and biosafety, have revealed a partnership to offer a comprehensive solution for the design and development of AAV gene therapies. This collaboration aims to reduce preclinical time and development costs while improving product safety and efficacy.

Kent Wakeford of Form Bio highlighted that the integration of AI can reduce preclinical development time by more than 30%, accelerating the delivery of life-saving treatments. This initiative combines Ginkgo's AAV product expertise with Form Bio's award-winning in silico solutions for AI-assisted design optimization.

Ginkgo Bioworks offers a range of services for gene therapy, from capsid engineering to manufacturing optimization. Form Bio complements this system with in silico solutions, covering product characterization through to gene expression prediction and design optimization.

Jason Kelly of Ginkgo Bioworks expresses his excitement to collaborate with Form Bio, a pioneer in the application of AI and in silico techniques to the development of AAV gene therapies. Both companies, although currently focused on gene therapy, have extensive capabilities in different therapeutic areas.

The challenges of developing safe, effective and manufacturable therapeutic products are significant, given the more than 2000 gene therapies currently in development. This partnership promises to address these challenges by providing an integrated solution for the development of AAV gene therapies.
