Fortified Health Security Publishes 2024 Mid-Year Healthcare Cybersecurity Report

Fortified Health Security has released its 2024 Mid-Year Horizon Report, offering crucial insights into healthcare cybersecurity. Highlighting the aftermath of significant data breaches at Change Healthcare and Ascension, the report underscores the heightened risks to patient and provider data.

Dan L. Dodson, CEO of Fortified, emphasized the complexity and rapid evolution of healthcare cybersecurity. The report aims to support leaders in prioritizing cyber preparedness and resilience. Contributions cover business continuity, access controls, and legislative developments in the sector.

Key findings include a 35% year-over-year decrease in breaches by Business Associates (BAs), although BA-related breaches still represent nearly 39% of all incidents. Network server breaches are currently the most common, with unauthorized access breaches expected to rise following recent incidents.

Dodson noted significant legislative advancements and stressed the ongoing challenges. He anticipates increasing pressure on healthcare organizations to enhance security measures, protect patient data, and maintain regulatory compliance throughout 2024 and beyond.
