Free Dementia Training Initiative Launched in Alabama
Second Wind Dreams®, renowned for enhancing elder care quality through innovative dementia care initiatives, has announced a groundbreaking achievement in Alabama. A remarkable milestone was reached with 80 skilled nursing communities in Alabama being awarded the 2024 Bronze level of Empathic Dementia Care Certification. This success underscores a fruitful partnership with the Alabama Nursing Home Association and the AL CMP Grants Department, focusing on deploying The Virtual Dementia Tour® across the state to improve dementia care and empathy.
The Virtual Dementia Tour is an evidence-based tool that revolutionizes caregiver understanding and empathy toward people living with dementia. It temporarily alters sensory and physical capabilities to provide insights into the daily experiences of those with dementia, fostering empathy and understanding. Its impact is significant, showing reductions in the use of psychoactive medications and acute hospitalizations while providing actionable strategies for caregivers and families. The program has reached over 3 million individuals and sets a new benchmark in memory care training.
There are currently 50 spots open through the CMP Grant for communities interested in achieving certification, available on a first-come, first-served basis until September 1, 2024. Second Wind Dreams encourages eligible communities to take this opportunity to enhance dementia care quality in their settings.
