French Artist Wins Gold at Chinese Fireworks Festival

On December 21, the city of Wanzai in Jiangxi Province, China, was illuminated by a fireworks display titled "Fireworks of Love." Designed by French artist Sophie, the show won the Gold Award at the 5th China International Fireworks Cultural Festival of Wanzai.

This event coincides with the 60th anniversary of China-France diplomatic relations in 2024. Sophie integrated French romanticism with Chinese traditions using colors like blue and red to craft a celebratory ambiance.

Sophie's fascination with Chinese culture dates back to her childhood. She played a role in the fireworks display at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Her appreciation for Chinese customs led her to adopt the name 苏绮(Su Qi), symbolizing her affinity for fireworks.

Now residing in Wanzai, Sophie is associated with a major local fireworks firm. Wanzai, with a 1,400-year history in fireworks, remains a key player in China's pyrotechnic industry.
