French Ministry Acknowledges Abode of Chaos as a 'Total Work of Art'

The Abode of Chaos, founded by Thierry Ehrmann in 1999, has received official recognition from France's Minister of Culture, Rachida Dati, as a 'total work of art.' This open-air museum, managed by the Organe Contemporary Art Museum, covers 7,555m² in Saint-Romain-au-Mont-d'Or, France. It hosts a vast collection of works created by Ehrmann, including sculptures and digital art, attracting 2.5 million visitors since its inception in 2006.
The museum's artistic value was recognized in a letter from Minister Dati, aligning its significance with other renowned works, such as Postman Cheval's Ideal Palace. The acknowledgment highlights the legal and cultural protection measures to ensure the site's preservation for future generations, establishing a dialogue between state services and Ehrmann's team.
This recognition marks a milestone for Ehrmann, comparable to historic legal decisions on art, emphasizing the enduring evolution and societal reflection embedded within the Abode of Chaos artwork.
