GEA and Believer Meats Join Forces to Scale Up Cultivated Meat Production
Believer Meats, a leader in the cultivated meat industry, has entered a strategic partnership with GEA, a top global supplier of production equipment. Their collaboration aims to co-develop technologies to enhance the economics and sustainability of cultivated meat production.
The partnership will initially focus on optimized production of cultivated chicken, later expanding to other types. This endeavor includes advancements in bioreactor technology and perfusion systems, while also minimizing environmental impacts through circular economy initiatives.
CEO of Believer, Gustavo Burger, highlights the alignment in innovating cost-effective, sustainable solutions. Stefan Klebert, CEO of GEA, emphasizes the importance of cell cultivation for future food security as global population rises.
Believer’s new facility in Wilson, N.C., set to be operational by 2025, will be a pivotal site in this partnership, potentially producing 12,000 metric tons of cultivated chicken annually. GEA's proprietary bioreactors will boost efficiency and yield, further supporting the large-scale production of cultivated meat.
