GA-ASI and AeroVironment Achieve First Air Launch of Switchblade 600 from MQ-9A

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) and AeroVironment have successfully conducted the first-ever air launch of a Switchblade 600 loitering munition from a GA-ASI Block 5 MQ-9A unmanned aircraft system. The tests were carried out at the U.S. Army Yuma Proving Grounds Test Range from July 22-24. This collaboration demonstrates a new capability for combining unmanned technologies.

GA-ASI President David R. Alexander expressed that this milestone allows the MQ-9A to operate at greater distances from enemy defenses, enhancing the range of the Switchblade 600. The integration process included the release of two munitions, showcasing GA-ASI's adaptability in implementing airborne launched effects on the battlefield.

The successful test underlines the operational benefits provided to commanders in contested environments by offering risk-tolerant solutions.
