Eurotunnel Disputes Proposed Business Rates Hike in Great Britain

Paris, 20 November 2025 – Eurotunnel opposes the Valuation Office Agency's (VOA) proposal to significantly increase its Business Rates in Great Britain. The proposed plan would raise the rateable value by around 200%, potentially adding €15 million to Eurotunnel's 2026 expenses, atop the €26 million charge for 2025.

Eurotunnel deems the increase unjustified, arguing it could hinder its investment capabilities in the UK. The company plans to continue negotiations with the VOA, with a final decision expected by March 2026.

If the proposal is enacted, Eurotunnel intends to defend its interests through all legal means, citing the Franco-British Concession texts of 1986, to safeguard the future of cross-Channel rail transport.

Eurotunnel criticizes the higher taxation compared to its more carbon-intensive competitors, which often evade the social standards of France and Great Britain.
