Global Ports Holding Launches Operations in Saint Lucia Cruise Port
Global Ports Holding Plc ("GPH"), the world's largest independent cruise port operator, announced the commencement of operations at Saint Lucia Cruise Port as of 9 August 2023. This follows the finalization of a 30-year concession agreement with an option to extend for an additional 10 years. GPH took on a substantial commitment involving a USD 60 million investment towards expanding and enhancing port facilities.
The development plan includes the extension of the existing berth at Point Seraphine, which will now accommodate larger cruise ships and increase overall port capacity. Significant improvements are also scheduled for onshore facilities, including a new Vendor's Arcade and Fishermen's Village at Banannes Bay aimed at boosting the local retail experience and a new amphitheatre and food and beverage area at Soufriere Bay.
These enhancements are expected to elevate the cruise passenger experience in Saint Lucia. They aim not only to increase the passenger volumes – with projections suggesting numbers could rise to above one million in the medium term – but also to bring substantial economic benefits to local communities.
The addition of Saint Lucia Cruise Port expands GPH's network to 26 consolidated ports, indicating strong growth as projected passenger numbers across all ports for the upcoming year are expected to exceed 16 million.
