The National Association of Counties (NACo) has awarded Gordon Philanthropies and the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department the 2024 Achievement Award in the Criminal Justice and Public Safety category. He highlighted the dedication of county officials and LASD staff in creating innovative government programs. Sheriff Robert G. Luna emphasized the initiative's role in fostering a supportive environment for families and promoting literacy among children.
The NACo Achievement Award honors outstanding county government programs in 18 categories. The Children's Library Initiative addresses the educational needs of children with incarcerated parents, providing books tailored to each child's needs. This approach includes bilingual and diverse literature.
Senator Maria Elena Durazo praised Gordon Philanthropies for their commitment to positive change. She noted the broader impact of their generosity on inmates and their families. The recognition reinforces the commitment of all involved parties to continue providing educational resources to children.
