Green Growth Propels Economic and Social Development in Jiangxi Province
East China's Jiangxi Province has demonstrated remarkable progress in its economic and social spheres through the adoption of green growth strategies. Achieving 63.1 percent forest coverage, it ranks second nationwide and boasts the best air quality among China's central provinces in 2023. Such accomplishments highlight the province's commitment to environmental sustainability, according to the local government.
The efforts extend to wildlife conservation, with Poyang Lake, the largest freshwater lake in China, serving as a sanctuary for up to 700,000 migratory birds annually. Jiangxi's initiatives include a birdwatching roadmap with eight routes and 20 sites to enhance eco-tourism and raise awareness on the importance of protecting wetlands and migratory birds.
Jiangxi's focus on green principles has facilitated economic opportunities as well. The province's dedication to ecological development is recognized with Huangling, Wuyuan, being named one of the "Best Tourism Villages" by the United Nations World Tourism Organization. Moreover, the booming bamboo industry in Zixi County exemplifies how local resources can be harnessed for sustainable economic growth, with the bamboo industry's output reaching 2.8 billion Yuan in 2022.
Looking ahead, Jiangxi is committed to continuing its conservation efforts for the Yangtze River and enhancing the compensation system for ecological conservation, further promoting a balance between economic development and environmental protection.
