Gridtractor-Led Consortium Achieves Milestone in Farm Electrification with V2G Demonstration

On March 22, 2024, Gridtractor, alongside Monarch Tractor and Borg Warner, showcased a pivotal advancement in farm electrification through a successful demonstration of Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technology in San Ramon, California. Utilizing a Monarch MK-V tractor equipped with a Borg Warner 60 kW DC Fast Charger, the demonstration was a pivotal showcase of the capabilities orchestrated through Gridtractor's innovative cloud-based charge management system, which leverages the Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP).

This event, funded by a $3 million grant from the California Energy Commission, highlighted the integration of V2G technology with the 100% electric Monarch MK-V tractor. Such integration allows the tractor to serve not only as a farming vehicle but also as a dynamic electric generator, capable of high-capacity power export. The demonstration also signified the completion of development for Gridtractor's open-standards charge management system in conjunction with Borg Warner's charging solution.

Gridtractor's system posits a significant advancement for agricultural operations, offering the potential for minimized charging costs and additional revenue generation opportunities for MK-V tractor owners through participation in dynamic rate and demand response programs. Furthermore, the technology promises enhanced grid reliability and substantial ROI for agricultural customers through various incentives and newly approved dynamic rate programs.
