Hong Kong and Kuwait Forge Strategic Partnerships

A delegation from Hong Kong, led by Chief Executive John Lee, completed a visit to Kuwait, marking significant progress in bilateral relations. The visit concluded with 24 memoranda of understanding and cooperation agreements in sectors such as trade, investment, and technology. Notably, an agreement between the Airport Authority Hong Kong and Kuwait Airways aims to boost aviation links.

The visit highlighted Hong Kong's strategic role as a connector between China and the world, under the "one country, two systems" framework. This aligns with ongoing efforts to fortify relationships with the Gulf Cooperation Council, enhancing trade prospects that reached nearly US$20 billion with the GCC last year.

Additionally, visa policies were updated to facilitate travel, enhancing business and cultural exchanges. John Lee's engagements with Kuwait's leadership emphasized mutual interests in finance and technology. The collaboration underscores Hong Kong’s ambition to serve as a pivotal hub in the Belt and Road Initiative, fostering long-term mutual benefits.
