Hong Kong Forges Strategic Partnerships in Qatar
Hong Kong's Chief Executive, John Lee, led a significant delegation to Qatar to strengthen economic ties and promote Hong Kong's strategic advantages in the Middle East. This delegation included over 50 business leaders from Hong Kong and Mainland China, marking a historic first. The visit resulted in 35 bilateral agreements covering important sectors such as finance, investment, and technology.
A key highlight was the new visa-free travel arrangement for HKSAR passport holders visiting Qatar. Additionally, discussions advanced on an Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement. John Lee emphasized Hong Kong's role as a pivotal connector under the 'one country, two systems' framework.
Qatar, an essential trading partner for Hong Kong in the region, saw bilateral trade worth US$1.6 billion last year. The visit included engagements with top Qatari officials and explored opportunities with the Qatar Investment Authority, particularly in finance and technology sectors.
