Imerys Announces Major Climate Transition Plan for 2030

On May 14, 2024, Imerys released its detailed Climate Transition Plan, showcasing rigorous climate targets and strategies to significantly reduce its carbon footprint by 2030. The plan answers growing environmental concerns and illustrates Imerys' commitment to align with global efforts to mitigate climate change.

The company has set ambitious goals to cut scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 42% and scope 3 emissions by 25% by 2030 from a 2021 base year. This initiative follows the targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), showing an alignment with the 1.5°C pathway to limit global warming.

Key measures in the Climate Transition Plan include enhancing energy efficiency, shifting to natural gas and biomass, sourcing renewable electricity, electrifying plant equipment, and fostering innovative technologies to reduce process-related emissions. By implementing these strategies, Imerys aims to reshape its production processes and contribute to a sustainable low-carbon economy.

Leah Wilson, Chief Sustainability Officer at Imerys, emphasized the core role of sustainability in the company's operations and how the Climate Transition Plan anticipates both the challenges and opportunities presented by climate change.
