Imerys Launches New Business Division Focused on Energy Transition
Imerys, a global leader in mineral-based specialty solutions, announced the establishment of a novel business segment, “Solutions for Energy Transition”, aimed at capitalizing on the rapid growth of critical minerals necessary for energy conversion. This strategic move underscores the increasing significance of high-purity quartz and graphite, along with carbon materials, in the company's portfolio, aligning with growing market demands related to energy sustainability.
Under the leadership of CEO Alessandro Dazza, Imerys is poised to reinforce its footprint in the energy transition sector, recognizing the pivotal role of its products in driving the company's future expansion. The establishment of the “Solutions for Energy Transition” division as of January 1, 2024, signifies a critical step in the firm's reorganization, focusing on graphite and carbon for mobile energy solutions and high-purity quartz for the solar and semiconductor industries. Future lithium project contributions are also anticipated.
The redefined structure will feature distinct operational segments including “Performance Minerals”, divided geographically, and “Solutions for Refractory, Abrasives and Construction”, each catering to specific market needs. Additionally, Imerys introduced a revised EBITDA metric, "Adjusted EBITDA", to offer a clearer depiction of its joint ventures' contribution to the group's financial health.
Following this reorganization, Imerys is set to disclose its first quarter results for 2024 on April 30, hinting at the future direction of its financial performance under the new business categorization. This strategic pivot towards materials vital for energy transition reflects Imerys’ commitment to innovation and sustainability in the face of evolving global energy demands.
