Implenia Secures Over EUR 100 Million Contract for Bremen Motorway Project

Implenia AG, in collaboration with Johann Bunte Bauunternehmen, has been awarded a major contract by DEGES Deutsche Einheit Fernstrasse Planning- und -Bau GmbH to complete a crucial section of the A 281 motorway around Bremen, Germany. The total project, valued at more than EUR 130 million, sees Implenia's share exceeding EUR 100 million. This contract aligns with Implenia's strategic focus on tackling large and complex infrastructure projects and is expected to significantly enhance traffic conditions across north-west Germany.

The assignment involves the construction of a 1.7 km motorway section between the Neuenlander Ring and the Kattenturmer Heerstrasse near Bremen Airport, which includes a 400 m elevated road supported by a prestressed concrete bridge. Other components of the project include building support walls with bored pile foundations, a 290 m cutting, an entrance for a future tunnel, and a one-kilometre four-lane motorway stretch. Employing Lean Construction methods, the project begins in May 2024, with completion slated for early 2029.

Besides improving traffic flow, the new Bremen ring-road is anticipated to mitigate noise and pollution, thereby enhancing the quality of life in adjacent residential areas. Henning Schrewe, Head Civil and Special Foundations Germany at Implenia, expressed the company's pride in being selected by DEGES again, attributing the success to Implenia's integrated services for complex infrastructure projects.
