Increase in alternative vehicles in the Swiss vehicle fleet

In October 2024, Switzerland and Liechtenstein recorded 18,753 new passenger car registrations, a decrease of 7.9% compared to the previous year. Over ten months, total registrations fell by 4.3%. Nevertheless, the share of alternatively powered vehicles reached a new high with 60.5% of the market, compared to 56.4% last year. Electric and hybrid cars accounted for 65% of new registrations in October.

With a vehicle fleet of almost 4.8 million vehicles, the share of alternatively powered cars rose to 13.8%, marking a substantial increase from 10.9% the previous year. Optimising Switzerland's road infrastructure could reduce traffic jams and CO2 emissions, according to auto-suisse.
