Asian Financial Forum Highlights New Horizons in Hong Kong
The 19th Asian Financial Forum (AFF) commenced on January 26, 2026, at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Co-organized by the Hong Kong SAR Government and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, the event gathers over 3,600 leaders from more than 60 countries, inaugurating the first major financial summit in 2026.
Chief Executive John Lee emphasized Hong Kong's unique positioning under "one country, two systems," enabling global market expansion. A significant milestone at the forum was the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau and the Shanghai Gold Exchange, fostering collaboration in the gold market.
The agreement aims to establish a high-level governance structure for Hong Kong's new gold clearing system and enhance infrastructure synergy, further solidifying Hong Kong and Shanghai's roles in the global gold market. The forum also features discussions on "Global Spectrum – Gold Exchange" and notable speakers, including Dr. José Manuel Barroso and other key financial figures.
